VIP RIP

Presented during Frieze Week Los Angeles, VIP RIP brought together moving image, digital work, installation, and sound examining how personal experience is mediated by the constant flow of content, news, images, and information.

Casey Kauffmann’s This Is Me BTW If You Even Care reflects on viral culture, internet escapism, and the vulnerability embedded within online personas through a scrolling digital skyscape populated by floating iPhones and TikTok compilations.

Wednesday Kim’s two-part video series, The Aesthetics of Being Disappeared and The Therapist, explores isolation, social anxiety, and the dissonance between online and offline experience through rapid visual sequences and existential text.

Cassie McQuater presented Black Room, a browser-based narrative game structured around the experience of drifting asleep on the internet. Rejecting conventional goals and linear progression, the work approaches gaming as an open-ended space of exploration and discovery.

The screening program was accompanied by an installation by Ásgerður “Ása” Arnardóttir and a live DJ set by Ice Wall.
