Eco Encoded

Opening alongside the county-wide PST ART initiative, Eco Encoded brings together artists working at the intersection of art, science, and technology. The media-based exhibition transforms Rip Space into an immersive visual and sonic environment where 3D animation, AI, and experimental sound converge to explore the evolving relationship between humanity, nature, and technology.

Central to the exhibition is the idea that natural resources and ecological systems might be understood as possessing forms of agency or consciousness, entities profoundly shaped by human intervention, yet still resilient and capable of generating new possibilities. Drawing from speculative fiction, mythology, and conspiracy theory, Eco Encoded uses narrative as a tool for imagining ecological futures beyond conventional frameworks.

The term “encoded” refers to the process through which scientific and data-driven research is translated into visual, sonic, and narrative form. The works draw on research into deep-sea mining, oil extraction, plastic waste, and ocean noise pollution, transforming these subjects into speculative scenarios of interspecies collaboration, more-than-human sentience, and increasingly hybrid relationships between biological and technological systems.

By moving beyond representations of ecological crisis alone, Eco Encoded asks how art might generate alternative ways of thinking about coexistence, adaptation, and our relationship to the more-than-human forces that shape the planet.
